Many people like travelling from one place to another. They travel to school, to work or on business trips. But most of them travel for pleasure. Travelling is a good way to learn about life because there are many ways of living and lots of different cultures. It is also a good way of spending their holidays. If you are a tourist it is very hard to know the country well. Many people prefer lying on the beach, while others are interested in history and culture of the country and talking to local people. Many of them like to practise a foreign language they have learnt in their home country.

During the year, especially in summer, the airports, railways stations, seaports and bus stops are full of people travelling for long or short distances. People travel long distances by plane. It is very exciting, fast, comfortable, relatively safe but expensive. It is one of the most important means of transportation. In large countries, like the USA, travelling by plane became quite common.

In the past, before air travel was possible, people used to travel long distances by sea. The grandest ship was Titanic. It was a huge passenger ship and everybody thought it was unsinkable. But on its voyage from England to New York, it hit an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean and more than 1,500 people died.

Travelling by train is also very common. Lots of people travel daily to and from work or to school by train. They are quite cheap, comfortable but not very clean. Trains mean socializing for many people. You can get up and take a short walk.

Buses are also used for long distance travelling. They are quite fast and prices of tickets are resonable.

But many people consider car the most comfortable means of travelling. For most of them the car is a necessity.

The way you spend your holiday depends on money. If you have a lot of money you can afford an expensive holiday, to stay at a hotel, travel by plane. The travel agency help you to arrange your travel. On the other hand many people cannot afford such luxury so they travel on their own, stay at a camp and prepare their meals on their own.

Home-swapping“ is a now type of holiday. It means that you exchange your home with a family in another country. It is a good way because you pay nothing for accommodation.

Tourists usually travel with their families or friends. But there are lots of explorers who usually travel on their own because they want to be independent.

Organizing a holiday is not easy. You have to think about many things. It is important to plan every step carefully.
