Present simple – jednoduchý prítomný čas
Použitie:
- vyjadruje dej, ktorý sa pravidelne opakuje
I go to school by bus every day.
- používame, keď je niečo všeobecná pravda alebo fakt
The sun rises in the east.
- používame, keď vyjadrujeme svoj názor
I like milk.
Present continuous – prítomný priebehový čas
Použitie:
- vyjadruje dej, ktorý práve teraz prebieha Tento čas používame aj v zmysle budúceho času, keď máme niečo naplánované a dohodnuté s inou osobou. Často používame údaj o čase a mieste. 
I am meeting my boss tomorrow morning.
We are playing tennis next Monday.
Na nasledujúcom obrázku a príklade si vysvetlíme rozdiel medzi prítomným jednoduchým a priebehovým časom: John is watching TV. 
He is not playing the guitar.
But John has a guitar.
He often plays it and he plays very well.
John plays the guitar but he is not playing the guitar now.
Základný rozdiel medzi prítomným jednoduchým a priebehovým časom je ten, že jednoduchý prítomný čas vyjadruje dej, ktorý sa pravidelne opakuje, alebo je všeobecná pravda (John plays the guitar) a prítomný priebehový čas prebieha práve teraz (He isn´t playing the guitar now) Prítomný priebehový čas

past --------------------------------------------now-------------------------------------------future I am working – v momente hovorenia niečo robím (teraz) Napr.
Please, be quiet. I´m working.
Tom is having a shower at the moment.
Take an umbrella with you. It´s raining.

Prítomný priebehový čas vyjadruje aj dej, ktorý je výnimkou z niečoho pravidelne sa opakujúceho. Nemusí bezprostredne prebiehať práve teraz.
